Presumptive republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is meeting with major GOP donor Sheldon Adelson, CEO of casino/hotel colossus Sands Corp., in his Las Vegas office Tuesday, CBS News and CNN report.

Adelson ranks No. 14 on Forbes’ list of the world’s most wealthy people, with an estimated net worth of $24.9 billion. He single-handedly kept Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign afloat, as he and his family donated $16 million to the super PAC supporting Gingrich — Winning Our Future. That made Adelson the single largest donor in the race.

Adelson and his wife also gave a combined $5 million to the GOP Congressional Leadership Fund led by former Sen. Norm Coleman in February. Adelson hasn’t donated to Romney or the Restore Our Future super PAC backing him.

But Adelson indicated months ago that he was open to offering Romney financial assistance if he won the nomination. The casino mogul said his chief aim is to unseat President Barack Obama.

In April, the Romney super PAC took in $4.6 million, its lowest total of the election cycle. But that number may be deceiving, as Rick Santorum’s challenge to Romney faded last month, with the former Pennsylvania senator withdrawing from the race April 9. That lessened Romney’s need for cash.

In addition to his visit with Adelson while he’s in Las Vegas, Romney will hold a fundraiser with real estate mogul Donald Trump and a campaign rally at a furniture store.
