Dan Senor, a top adviser to Mitt Romney’s campaign, is upset with top Republicans who pushed for cabinet positions in a Romney administration shortly before the election and then socked it to him afterward.

“It is stunning,” he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Wednesday, Politico reports.

“The Friday night before the election, we were in Cincinnati for this huge rally — tens of thousands of people. You could feel the energy; 100 top-tier Romney surrogates were at the event. I’m backstage with some of them. They’re talking about Romney like he’s Reagan.”

They lauded the candidate’s debate performances as the best in Republican history, calling him “iconic,” Senor said. “They were talking about him because they believed he was going to win in four days. Some of them were already talking to our transition [team] to position themselves for a Romney cabinet.”

Then after the election these same people were “absolutely eviscerating him,” Senor said. He declined to name names.

Many of the transgressors chose not to run for president themselves, “because they believed this race was unwinnable,” Senor said.

Among those who were most vociferous in their criticism of Romney after the election were Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez.
