One of the most familiar spokespeople for Republican contenders has been named as the official voice of the 30 Republican governors.
Gail Gitchko was tapped as communications director for the Republican Governors Association, overseeing the press and public relations strategy in the two gubernatorial elections this year (New Jersey and Virginia) and in the 36 set for 2014.
Gitchko, communications director for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign in 2012, was previously communications director for former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown and press secretary at the Republican National Committee in 2009-2010.
Since President Obama first took office in 2009, Republicans have made a net gain of nine governorships, with their present governors in power in 30 states, which hold nearly 184 million Americans. Republicans also control the legislatures In 24 of those states, containing 157 million Americans. Democrats hold similar power in just 12 states, with a population of 100 million.
