The FBI continues to investigate the Clinton Foundation for corruption during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus reminded voters Sunday.
Priebus made the statement following FBI Director James Comey’s announcement that he would not recommend criminal charges against the Democratic presidential candidate in the email probe, Breitbart reported.
Priebus added that “The FBI’s findings from its criminal investigation of Hillary Clinton’s secret email server were a damning and unprecedented indictment of her judgment. The FBI found evidence Clinton… placed highly classified national security information at risk and repeatedly lied to the American people about her reckless conduct.”
Fox News reported Sunday that a top FBI source said “Comey does not play by ‘Mother may I’ rules, meaning the FBI chief does what he thinks is right, darn the consequences or political or otherwise."
Fox has also reported that the FBI's investigation into the Clinton Foundation continues to be of "very high priority" among some agents on the ground, according to sources with intimate knowledge of the probe.
Sources said agents have spoken with and re-interviewed multiple people on the foundation case, although there is a split between local investigators and FBI headquarters, as well as with the Justice Department.
The FBI announcement regarding the Clinton emails came as both campaigns raced through key battleground states in an attempt to gain any sort of edge before Election Day on Tuesday, with polls indicating a tight race.
