Ohio GOP Sen. Rob Portman, a potential vice presidential candidate, apparently hasn’t spoken to Mitt Romney recently.

Portman was asked by “Fox and Friends” host Steve Doocy Tuesday, “Have you heard from Mitt Romney lately?” The former White House budget director responded, “I have not.”

It’s unclear what this means for the senator’s vice presidential chances.

The New York Times reported Monday that friends of Romney believe he’s already made a decision. Republican sources told the paper that Portman and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty are at the top of the list.

Romney’s senior campaign aide Eric Fehrnstrom told Reuters Monday that “an announcement could happen any time between now and the convention.”

If Romney already has made a decision, the fact that Portman hasn’t spoken to him recently may not mean much. And even if Romney hasn’t made a decision, the lack of contact may not mean much.
