Rick Perry is likely to run again for governor of Texas, reports a columnist for The New York Times.

Ross Ramsey, managing editor of the Texas Tribune and a regular contributor to The Times, says that Perry has been hinting about a possible 2014 run. Given Perry's history of running for everything he has said he'd run for, it's likely he will seek a fourth term as Texas governor. Ramsey suggests that Perry, if the GOP were to lose the 2012 race against President Barack Obama, would make a 2016 run for the White House.

Ramsey's publication reported back in February that Perry said he'd like to be governor of the Lone Star State again, and did not rule out a 2014 run. That has some critics talking about whether Texas should have term limits, Ramsey writes.

"Mr. Perry is on the verge of serving as Texas governor longer than Franklin Delano Roosevelt served as president — a run of 12 years and 42 days that the governor will match at the beginning of February," Ramsey writes. "He attracts the same sort of grumbles that Roosevelt did, with opponents complaining that he has been there too long, that it is time for fresh ideas, that maybe the state should limit its chief executive’s time in office after all."
