The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has given Texas Gov. Rick Perry the go-ahead to create a new political action committee with funds remaining from his GOP presidential primary bid or put the money into his gubernatorial political account.

“Gov. Perry is pleased with the FEC’s ruling and looks forward to the opportunity to use these funds to continue promoting policies of fiscal and social conservatism, limited government, and those that respect and uphold the tenants of the 10th Amendment,” Perry spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said in a statement Thursday.

Perry’s most recent campaign finance filings indicate he has about $675,000 cash on hand, the Dallas Morning News reported Thursday. That does not account for any outstanding bills the campaign must pay, and it has to return $270,000 raised for the general presidential election.

The FEC ruling enables Perry to create a political action  committee that could donate directly to candidates or a “super PAC,” which could raise unlimited funds with disclosing donors to finance issue advertising but cannot coordinate with political campaigns or donate to candidates.
