The Obama campaign is outspending Mitt Romney on television ads in the most battleground states, in some cases by as much as 50 percent more, The New York  Times reports.

In Colorado, Obama is running seven ads for every five Romney has, mostly pegging the Republican candidate as out of touch and dismissive of middle class families.

In Florida, Obama is running 50 percent more ads than Romney, and according to the Times, most of those were accusing Romney of sending jobs to China, dismantling Medicare and dishonesty -- for failing to make his tax returns public. The same played out in most battleground states.

And because the Obama camp seems to have deftly placed ads in radio,  and cable television, and around programming targeted at certain groups, like women, GOP strategists worry that Romney's team has been outmatched by Obama, who has a large outside time-buying firm.

Romney's advisors deny this, saying their strategy has always been to spend heavily during the last weeks of the election, hoping to sway voters as close to election day as possible.

“With the money that Governor Romney’s been able to raise — with Ryan raising it too — we’re able to get a more even footing with them in terms of ad buys, and that will help in the long term,” said Ed Gillespie, a senior adviser to Romney.

And American Crossroads said on Tuesday it was planning an additional $11 million buy into swing states in the coming weeks, too, which will help.
