President Barack Obama’s re-election team has put together three websites designed to provide information on his presidential record and those of his Republican rivals. The websites have been christened the “Truth Team,” The Washington Post reported.

The strategy is similar to that pioneered by President Bill Clinton in 1992 and dubbed the “War Room.” The Truth Team is an acknowledgement that the 2012 election is going to get ugly, the Post reported.

“We believe that our grass-roots supporters persuading their networks to support the president will provide us with the decisive edge in November,” Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt told the Post. “We’re providing them with the tools they need to amplify the president’s record, fact-check the Republicans’ attacks, and prevent the Republicans from rewriting the history of their records.”

While LaBolt characterizes the Truth Squad as a way to counter ads from super PACs, the Post wrote that it is more likely to accelerate the already bitter and ideological fight on the web. Of the three Obama sites, only the
KeepingHisWord.com site could be described as positive in tone, limiting its content to Obama’s accomplishments.

However, the other sites, AttackWatch.come and KeepingGOPHonest.com, are far more negative. In addition to the sites, the campaign has arranged for surrogates to lead Truth Teams around the country, the Post reported.
