In a threat to Senate Democrats, the National Rifle Association says it will make sure members know who voted for – and against – confirming Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, the Washington Examiner is reporting.
The organization has endorsed Gorsuch’s nomination, the website noted.
"The NRA has every confidence that Judge Gorsuch will protect the Second Amendment rights of law abiding gun owners and will faithfully apply the Constitution in the cases that come before him," Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action, said in a letter to Senate leaders. "He has our strongest support for confirmation.
"Because of the importance of this issue to NRA members and gun owners throughout the country, votes on his confirmation will be considered in future candidate evaluations and we will notify our members accordingly."
The NRA uses the evaluations – or scorecards -- to determine who to support or oppose in upcoming elections. They are considered crucial to a small number of Democrats in conservative states.
The NRA has called Gorsuch an "outstanding choice" for the Supreme Court, according to Newsweek.
And the magazine noted Wayne LaPierre, who heads the NRA, joined Trump to plan for his confirmation a day after Gorsuch’s nomination.
