Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich has launched a television ad for central Ohio trumpeting the state’s success and voicing support for state Treasurer Josh Mandel’s bid for the Senate.

“I’m blessed to have the privilege to lead our great state, and I’m proud to say we’re turning things around and getting Ohioans back to work,” Kasich says in the ad. “For Ohio to continue to do better, we need new leadership in Washington that will put the best interests of Ohio first. We need new leaders like Josh Mandel.”

The rest of the nation can learn from the Buckeye state, Kasich says in the ad. “Here in Ohio, we’re showing the way. By balancing the budget and cutting taxes, we’re making Ohio’s economy stronger. Josh Mandel has been a terrific state treasurer. Recently, while America’s credit was being downgraded, Ohio’s credit outlook has actually been upgraded.”

The ad cost about $100,000, according to Politico.

Real Clear Politics rates Mandel’s race as leaning toward Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown. The latest major poll, conducted by Rasmussen Reports Oct. 23, has Brown ahead 48 to 44 percent.
