Donald Trump, whose immigration policies have been a flashpoint in his presidential campaign, "is deeply unpopular with Latino voters" and could wind up with the lowest vote ever for a GOP nominee if he's the party's pick, a new poll shows.

The survey conducted by Latino Decisions, for the immigration advocacy group America's Voice, shows Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders would beat Trump 78-11 percent, and Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton would best him 76-11 percent.

In a matchup between GOP Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Clinton, the former secretary of state would draw 64 percent support and Cruz, the son of a Cuban immigrant, would garner 29 percent, the poll shows. Sanders would beat Cruz 65-26 percent, according to the poll.

The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 2.1 percentage points.

Trump's 11 percent vote total against either Democratic candidate is the lowest ever for a GOP presidential nominee among Latinos since polls began measuring Latino voters, NBC News reports.

George W. Bush won almost 40 percent of the Latino vote in 2004, with some estimates showing Ronald Reagan doing as well 20 years earlier, marking the high point of the Republican potential for Latino voters, NBC News reports.

The poll "makes clear that immigration matters" to Latinos and "that Donald Trump is deeply unpopular with Latino voters," America's Voice said in a news release.

Among other findings, the poll also shows:
  • Trump has an 87 percent unfavorable rating among Latinos, compared with a 32 percent unfavorable view of Clinton, and a 24 percent unfavorable rating for Sanders.
  • Both Sanders and Clinton have a favorability of 61 percent with Latinos.
