Best-selling author and former President Bill Clinton adviser James Carville says he hasn't spoken to Hillary Clinton about a possible presidential run.

"I don't know if she is going to run," he half-jokingly told a reporter for The Herald in Monterey County, Calif.,  "and if she asks me to be a key adviser, that is an indication she shouldn't run.

"There are three things you will never hear a Democrat say," he said. "One, would you hand me that fork? I want to stick it in my eye. Two, I really miss [George W.] Bush. Three, I hope Hillary don't run."

Carville's trademark folksy comments come in the wake of speculation that Vice President Joe Biden also may be gearing up for a presidential run. Biden spoke last week in the key primary state of South Carolina, fueling speculation that he was going to run.

Two national polls last week indicated Clinton would have a strong lead in the Democratic primary — more than 60 percent — with Biden coming in at a distant second at around 12 to 13 percent, CNN reported.

One of the polls, a Quinnipiac University poll, surveyed the field without Clinton in the picture. In such a scenario, Biden jumps up to 45 percent, with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo at 15 percent.

Carville, who recently signed on to help a pro-Clinton super PAC, said he's "not seen one Democrat in the country that does not want her to run."

As for Republicans, Carville recently praised Sen. Ted Cruz, a freshman from Texas who seems to have presidential aspirations. The conservative Republican gave a speech less than two miles from Biden's appearance Friday night in South Carolina, stoking further 2016 speculation.

"This guy is something," Carville said. "I don't agree with him; I think he's out there. But I'm telling you, he's more talented than all of these other guys."
