Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain will take the high road during the campaign and avoid “trashing” his party colleagues, he told National Review Online in a lengthy interview.

Cain still managed to paint himself as the more viable candidate than his challengers while maintaining this civil approach. The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO noted that presidential contender Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., had once been a businesswoman, but that he had been in business his entire life. “So I have a longer track record of fixing problems, of turning things around.”

He was similarly low-key on contender Mitt Romney, former Republican governor of Massachusetts, when it came to questions of Romney’s voting record and the controversial state healthcare program he championed. “I’m going to leave that to the media,” said Cain. “They’re doing a good job beating him up on that hill. They don’t need my help.”

Cain also commented on the size of Romney’s war chest, which is apparently much larger than his own, saying, “We’re not going to raise as much money as Mitt Romney is capable of spending, or what he’s already spent.”

The candidate downplayed questions on his knowledge of foreign affairs, saying that he would be surrounded by plenty of policy experts.
“How much foreign-policy experience do you need to listen to experts?” asked Cain. He said that what he lacks in this area, he makes up for in financial expertise.
