House Speaker John Boehner wasn't finding any love among some members of his own party after he successfully negotiated a
budget deal Thursday night.
"The political establishment wanted full-on amnesty," Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota said Thursday on Fox News Channel's
"Hannity." In addition to funding the government through the fiscal year, it also leaves untouched President Barack Obama's executive actions granting legal status to millions of illegal immigrants.
Bachmann said the vote never would have been held a week before the midterm elections because it would have cost Republicans votes. She said Boehner was being "disrespectful" to voters who gave the Senate to the GOP.
Asked by host Sean Hannity if Boehner cut a "backroom deal" with Obama, Bachmann said, "A deal was made. There's no question. They wanted to have amnesty."
She said she and Rep. Steve King of Iowa offered a positive alternative in a private meeting with Boehner earlier in the day.
"I think the deal was made and the die was cast, and no good ideas outside of that deal were going to be considered," King told Hannity.
"It's a sad day that John Boehner doesn't realize that there was an election. The people have spoken," Hannity told the House members.
Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas slammed the bill because he said it funded the Department of Homeland Security for only two months, but funded everything else until the end of September.
Since DHS handles border security, he said Republicans' hands will be weakened when they want to negotiate with Obama.
"The rule in taking hostages is, never take a hostage the other side wants you to shoot," Gohmert said. In two months they'll have no threat against Obama for not repealing his amnesty order since defunding DHS would actually defeat the GOP's own cause by taking agents off the border.
Asked by Hannity if the action would affect Boehner's chances at being re-elected House speaker, Gohmert quipped, "I think he ought to be able to pick up some Democratic votes for speaker this time."
