Republicans may be fighting among themselves in the presidential primary race, but soon GOP members of Congress will have an issue on which it’s easy for them to unite. That’s the fiscal 2013 budget that President Barack Obama is scheduled to release Feb. 13, The Hill reports.

House Republicans are putting together a budget resolution of their own. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said last week that he won’t bring any budget – Democratic or Republican to the floor.

That gave Republicans an easy opening. “Majority Leader Reid has effectively declared both a Senate Democrat budget — and the president’s budget — dead on arrival,” Senate Budget Committee ranking member Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said at a hearing Tuesday, The Hill reports.

“If they do not take on a different approach, then the majority party is failing in the fundamental requirement of leadership.” Sessions said Republicans will probably force a vote on Obama’s budget if it is “not good.”

The White House budget will provide a major campaign edge for Republicans in November, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told The Hill. “A budget is sort of your heart and soul on display,” he said. Moderate Maine Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe sees it the same way. “Certainly it’s a coalescing force,” she told The Hill.
