One of the country's top Republican pollsters and strategists, Tony Fabrizio, has signed on with Rick Perry's presidential campaign, The Miami Herald reports.

Fabrizio was a key architect of Fla. Gov. Rick Scott's come-from-behind 2010 victory for the governorship after a fiercely contested GOP primary and general election race.

Perry's campaign has been ailing, having lost his frontrunner status in the wake of several poor showings at Republican debates.

Fabrizio will join other Perry campaign staff, including lead strategist Dave Carney.
