Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is conducting an online class touting the future possibilities of a development he says “will transform our lives” — driverless automobiles.
Gingrich and his Newt University’s short course introducing self-driving cars will be broadcast beginning at 4 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, March 25.
“Coming advances in education, regenerative medicine, and materials science will improve our lives dramatically and shrink government as they return power to citizens and expand freedom,” Gingrich says in a newsletter.
“Self-driving cars are just such an innovation.”
Newt points out that Google has already developed a small fleet of self-driving cars that have safely traveled more than 500,000 miles on California roads, and several car makers, including Ford, are “scrambling” to make self-driving cars of their own.
Among several benefits of self-driving cars highlighted by Gingrich, the cars would never suffer from human error and therefore never crash, enabling manufacturers to make vehicles from much lighter materials, since heavier steel won’t be needed for protection. That will dramatically increase fuel economy.
Gingrich invites readers: “Join us at Newt University as we explore these implications and many more to learn how self-driving cars might create a better future for all Americans.”
