The Bob Woodruff Foundation was first contacted by the Donald J. Trump Foundation last week about a $75,000 donation that arrived one day later,
The Hill reports.
Trump
held a contentious press conference on Tuesday in which he blasted the media for questioning his commitment to donate $5.6 million raised during an event in January when he skipped a Fox News presidential debate.
Trump said some groups did not receive their checks earlier because his staff had to vet the groups to ensure the money really went to help veterans.
Woodruff Foundation communications manager Sam Kille told The Hill a $75,000 check was received last Wednesday.
"We were told a day before a check would be coming," he said.
The Woodruff Foundation did not have a previous relationship with Trump's foundation, Kille said.
Trump included the Woodruff Foundation gift in a list of donations to veterans groups he read off a list at Tuesday's press conference at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
No strings were attached to the donation, Kille said.
The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation also received a $1 million donation from Trump personally.
"We received a $1 million check from his personal account," the group's executive director Sue Boulhosa, told The Hill. "The check is dated May 24."
Her group also received $100,000 in March from the Trump Foundation, she added.
