President Donald Trump's recent rhetoric has made his aides uncomfortable, but they're not leaving yet, Politico reports.
White House aides spoke anonymously with Politico about their response to Trump's words and their reasons for staying, as most of them are.
"A lot of it is just making sure that things that are not fully baked or things that are not constructive don't end up happening," said one senior aide.
Some said they hoped that Trump would have a better chance of running a functional government if surrounded by professionals. Others were staying to try and achieve the things they set out to accomplish, including tax reform and infrastructure development.
Top-level aides H.R. McMaster, the national security adviser, and his deputy, Dina Powell, both told people that they feel it's too dangerous and serious a time for them to leave the administration.
Longtime Trump supporter Roger Stone told Politico that "the president helped himself" if some of his aides, such as National Economic Council director Gary Cohn, left due to his remarks.
"Boy, that would be great," he said. "But I just don't see the globalist contingent picking up and leaving — Gary wants to go to the Fed and probably will. Why not hang on for that appointment?"
One White House official told Politico that "Nothing has changed" for Cohn. "Gary is focused on his responsibilities as NEC Director."
