David Axelrod on Sunday said electors should not vote opposite their state's choice for president as a reversal "would rip this country apart."

Axelrod, who served as President Barack Obama’s senior advisor through 2011 and his chief strategist for both his presidential campaigns, has been vocal about his displeasure with Trump’s actions and agenda.

Members of the Electoral College cast their vote on Dec. 19. Some have come under intense scrutiny since Trump won the election and, have reported receiving hundreds of emails and phone calls pleading them to not vote for the Republican nominee. Some electors have even received death threats.
