Sources close to freshman Sen. Ted Cruz are adamant that he is considering running for the White House in 2016.

They tell the National Review his interest is clear: “If you don’t think this is real, then you’re not paying attention,” one unidentified Republican insider told the publication. “Cruz already has grassroots on his side, and in this climate, that’s all he may need.”

A long-time associate of the tea party favorite, who's also a donor, told National Review, “There’s not a lot of hesitation there. He’s fearless.”

The Texas senator has an impressive resume, with a prestigious law practice and degrees from Harvard Law School and Princeton University. Some Republicans find him attractive because they like the idea of a true conservative rather than an establishment candidate.

“Ted won’t be opening an Iowa office anytime soon, but he’s listening,” a long-time Cruz associate told National Review. “This is all in the early stages. Nothing is official. It’s just building on its own.”

Cruz is slower to form a national political organization than other potential candidates, but that will be no handicap, his allies say. “If he thinks this country needs bold leadership, he’s not going to shy away,” a former colleague told National Review. “He is one of the most confident people I know, and he’d run to win.”
