To revive his flagging campaign, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney just needs to show why the country needs him, says Al Cardenas, chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU), which holds its Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the battleground state of Colorado on Oct. 4.
Designed to arm grassroots conservatives across the country with the resources and tools needed to defeat President Obama, CPAC Colorado is important this year because Denver is the site of the first Presidential debate on Oct. 3 — the night before the conference. The topic of that debate is domestic policy.
"The whole country’s ready for a change,” Cardenas tells Newsmax.TV’s John Bachman. “Mitt just needs to show he is the rightful heir to that change.”

The economy is in the tank, with GDP growth below 2 percent and unemployment above 8 percent. “You go down every economic indicator, and Americans, by 60 percent or higher, realize that things are not well and need a change,” Cardenas says.
“Mitt needs to emphasize that he’s a rightful successor to turn things around, and he needs to get the job done, but only he can do that. He can do it at the debates.”

Given his past position as chairman of Florida’s GOP, Newsmax.TV asked Cardenas for his take on the state’s Senate race between Republican Connie Mack and incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson.
“Florida will be all about turnout,” Cardenas says. “Connie Mack’s got a bit to go, but he’s in a great place.” A new poll shows that Nelson’s approval rating is only 36 percent, probably the lowest of any incumbent in the country, Cardenas says.
“When you’ve got that kind of exposure and you’ve got those weaknesses, Connie Mack ought to seize the moment. He’s capable of doing that. He certainly is going to have the outside funds to help him match up with Bill Nelson’s big bank account.”
The Oct 4 CPAC event features Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a member of the Romney family, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Rep. Artur Davis, former HP CEO Carly Fiorina, and Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback.
