Former Republican Congresswoman Heather Wilson of New Mexico is running for the U.S. Senate, The New Mexican in Santa Fe reported.  Wilson, who lost a bitter primary three years ago, announced her candidacy Monday in Albuquerque, with several prominent Republicans standing on stage with her.

Heather Wilson, New Mexico, SenateShe has received dozens of endorsements from GOP leaders across the state.

"I've started sooner, asking people for their support," Wilson said in a phone interview with the newspaper. "It's gratifying to see so many supporting me, some of whom didn't support me last time."

Among supporters Monday stood former U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, former Congressman and U.S. Interior Secretary Manuel Lujan, Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry and former Congressman Bill Redmond.

Seven Republican state senators and 13 state representatives, as well as several former legislators, also endorsed Wilson. She also has been endorsed by three of the five 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidates — former GOP State Chairman Allen Weh, former state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones of Albuquerque, and Pete Domenici Jr., the son of the former senator.
