Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter appears to have broken several ribs in a bicycle accident.

The mishap occurred early Tuesday when the Democratic governor collided with another cyclist in a group of four, said Ritter's spokesman, Evan Dreyer. Ritter appears to have multiple rib fractures on his right side, Dreyer said.

Ritter, who was treated at Denver Health Medical Center, was in good spirits, laughing and joking with hospital staff, Dreyer said.

The other cyclist had minor injuries and wasn't taken to a hospital, Dreyer said.
