The California Republican Party is alive and well, despite a report to the contrary in The New York Times this week, says state GOP Chairman Thomas Del Beccaro.

Under the leadership of Gov. Jerry Brown, Democrats in California are overreaching, he says. “If history is a guide, the Golden State will . . . see the pendulum swinging toward a GOP revival over the next three election cycles,” Del Beccaro writes in Politico.

California’s stagnant economy will pave the way for Republicans, he says. Unemployment stands at an eye-popping rate of 10.7 percent, and three California cities have or will declare bankruptcy.

“The reason for this is simple: California has the nation’s highest combined tax-regulatory-debt burden,” Del Beccaro writes. “Add to that unfunded mandates burdening both the state and its communities — and you have the prescription for disaster.”

But change is coming, he says. “California Republicans have already picked up one targeted House seat in 2012, and we’re confident in holding our remaining seats. At the state level, independent analysts predict Republicans gaining Assembly seats while holding in the Senate.”

The rising Republican tide stems first from the incompetence of Democrats in office. “Second, the California public pension crisis is the worst in the U.S.,” Del Beccaro writes. “Unfunded mandates—employee pensions, salaries and benefits—represent a shortfall that could total $500 billion.”

Third, “Republicans are emerging as the party of ‘yes’ in California,” Del Beccaro says. And finally, “California is just not as ‘blue’ as many believe,” he writes. “In fact, Republicans make up the majority of local elected officials.”

Bottom line: “We Republicans in California are clear-eyed about our challenges,” Del Beccaro maintains. “We are laying the foundation for our recovery.”
