Republican Sen. Scott Brown and his likely Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren are locked in a tight battle for the November Senate race in Massachusetts, according to a new Boston Globe poll.

The survey shows Brown with a 2 percentage point lead over Warren — 37 to 35 percent. That’s well within the poll’s 4.2 percentage point margin of error.

Brown outscores Warren three to one among independents, while Warren has more than a three-to-one lead among moderate and conservative Democrats.

The Republican wins hands down on likability. A total of 57 percent of respondents said Brown is more likable than Warren, while only 23 percent put Warren ahead. Voters also view Brown as more bipartisan than Warren. A near-majority 49 percent say the incumbent Brown would work better with members of the opposite party, while only 27 percent say Warren would do so. And 27 percent of voters say Brown votes independently of his political party.

Respondents think Warren is a stronger advocate for the working class than Brown. A total of 44 percent of voters think she would do more to help working people, compared to 35 percent who think it’s Brown.

Most recent polls have shown Brown with a slight lead in the race.

26 percent of voters are still undecided.
