Democrat Richard Blumenthal has defeated Republican Linda McMahon and won the Senate seat in Connecticut being vacated by retiring Christopher Dodd, according to a Fox News projection.

The win by Connecticut Attorney General Blumenthal is a sign that Democrats could retain control of the Senate.

McMahon had spent millions of dollars of the fortune she made heading the World Wrestling Entertainment company.
