President Donald Trump is undermining the U.S. justice system with his comments, according to Sen. Angus King, I-Vt.
"The idea of our criminal justice system being a joke and a laughing stock, you know, that's the FBI. It's our U.S. attorneys. It's our judges and juries. That was just corrosive of understanding and support for the system, which is what we're supposed to be fighting for," King said Thursday on CNN's "New Day" program.
"What we're talking about here is the Constitution, and it's not a pesky annoyance. It's who we are, it's what we fight for. It's what the flag symbolizes… In effect, what he's saying is that pesky Constitution, and those constitutional rights, you know, we've got to get rid of them," the lawmaker said.
"He just comes out with what's on top of his head, and I think that's the way he feels," he added.
In the wake of the Tuesday's New York City terror attack, Trump slammed U.S. immigration laws and the justice system's handling of suspects as a "joke" and a "laughing stock," according to The Washington Post.
