ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Democratic candidate in Alaska's Senate race is sizing up his competition in a new ad — figuring he's twice the man of Republican nominee Joe Miller and maybe "three or four" Lisa Murkowskis, the incumbent who is running a write-in campaign.

In the new ad, the 6-foot-3, 350-pound Scott McAdams calls himself a "big guy from a small town" and says that people may not see that beneath his bulk lies "a rock-ribbed fighter for Alaska."

McAdams, the mayor of Sitka, has used humor throughout the campaign, infusing it into his larger, policy-oriented message as he's tried to avoid the tit-for-tat that Miller and Murkowski have engaged in. During a recent debate, he suggested all three might need a group hug.
