GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Tuesday said Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders should run as an independent.
Trump tweeted:
Sanders' campaign manager Jeff Weaver told the
Boston Globe the Vermont senator will stay in the presidential race until the Democratic convention.
"This is a powerful movement he's built," Weaver said, according to the Boston Globe. "And we're going to take it to the convention."
The Sanders campaign said he will continue to run as a Democrat in future elections.
In an interview aired Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," moderator Churck Todd asked Sanders if he thought the Democratic nominating process was being fair to him. He answered "yes and no," according to
Politico.
Sanders said the media focuses on "political gossip" instead of issues. Adding: "We're taking on the establishment. That's pretty clear."
Democrats close to Hillary Clinton are hoping Sanders can end his campaign without giving Trump any material to use against her, according to the
New York Observer.
