Beyond the polls showing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney could beat President Barack Obama, another sign of his potential are increasing Democratic attacks, including a new complaint filed in New Hampshire, the Union Leader reported Friday.

Mitt Romney, Republican, GOP, president, DemocratsThe New Hampshire Democratic Party filed a federal complaint Friday accusing Romney’s presidential exploratory committee of funneling soft money contributions through his five state political action committees to pay for federal campaign expenses.

Romney has followed the law in his efforts to advance Republican causes and candidates, said Andrea Saul, spokeswoman for his exploratory committee.

Romney’s "Free and Strong America PAC," the forerunner of the exploratory committee, "follows both the letter and spirit of the law. Our PAC operations have always been totally transparent — our donors and expenses are all disclosed regularly and in great detail,’’ Saul said.

The state-level PACs "gave Mitt Romney the resources to campaign for candidates, speak about the ideas and policies important to him, and help Republican candidates and conservative groups across the country," she said.
