MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The head of Wisconsin's Republican Party says he will challenge the national GOP chairman.

State GOP Chairman Reince Priebus says he will run for Michael Steele's position. He promised to unify the Republican National Committee, keep expenses low and court donors.

Steele has divided Republicans over the two years he has led the party. Critics say he hasn't raised enough money and has spent too much.

A number of Republicans are considering challenging Steele, who has not said yet whether he'll seek another two-year term. The RNC will select the next chairman at the national party's meeting in January.
