After last year’s massive Republican election victories, in which the GOP frequently used then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as a symbol of Democratic policies and attitudes, it looked like her career was pretty much finished. But now she’s back on the national stage under more positive circumstances, The Hill reports.

Nancy Pelosi, GOP, DemocratsDuring a news conference Thursday, she was basking in the glow of the Democratic victory in New York’s special congressional election this week. “We had a spectacular election in New York-26,” she said.

But Pelosi still has low approval ratings. And many Republicans hope she plays a major role in next year’s elections too, thinking she will add spark to the party’s fundraising efforts and help it to gain more seats in Congress.
