Actress Ashley Judd, who is mulling a bid for senator in Kentucky, is way out of step with the state’s voters, says the state's junior senator Rand Paul.

She may run against Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2014 or Paul himself in 2016.

“I heard she lived in Scotland,” Paul told Washington, D.C. radio station WMAL Wednesday. “I thought she was running for Parliament. I think she’d fit right in in the English Parliament.”

Judd’s primary residence is actually in Tennessee, although she is married to Scottish race-car driver Dario Franchitti.

Judd is “way damn too liberal for our country, for our state,” he said. “She hates our biggest industry, which is coal. So I say good luck bringing the ‘I hate coal’ message to Kentucky.”

Paul didn’t deny an interest in running for president in 2016. He said he probably won’t decide whether to run for another two years.

Republicans need to defend their beliefs more strongly, Paul said. “I want to make sure we have a firm spine and that we do stand for limited government, lower taxes, and the constitution. We also need a candidate who believes in a more constitutional foreign policy, which means we don’t need to be everywhere around the world.”
