A new
Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey places Donald Trump with a 26-point lead in the upcoming New York primary, while also giving him high popularity ratings in his home state.
According to the poll of 1,403 New York voters, including 663 likely Democratic primary voters and 483 likely Republican primary voters taken between April 7-10:
- Trump: 51 percent;
- John Kasich, 25 percent;
- Ted Cruz, 20 percent.
And in favorability ratings:
- Trump, 65-29 percent;
- Kasich, 41-38 percent;
- Cruz, 35-50 percent.
Meanwhile, voters were evenly divided on their second choice after Trump, with 24 percent choosing Cruz and 23 percent picking Kasich.
But when voters picked between the candidates:
- Kasich over Cruz, 45-39 percent;
- Trump over Kasich, 63-29 percent;
- Trump over Cruz, 60-25 percent.
Trump also has the most committed base of support, the poll showed:
- Trump: 80 percent say they'll definitely support him;
- Cruz: 56 percent committed;
- Kasich, 48 percent committed.
Trump also won in every key group:
- Very conservative: Trump, 52 percent; Cruz, 35 percent; Kasich, 7 percent.
- Moderates: Trump, 51 percent; Kasich, 37 percent; Cruz, 10 percent.
Trump also leads:
- Men, 55 percent;
- Seniors, 54 percent;
- Younger voters, 50 percent;
- Women: 46 percent.
Trump is also winning in New York City:
- Trump, 52 percent;
- Kasich, 37 percent;
- Cruz, 9 percent;
- Suburbs: Trump, 64 percent; Kasich, 21 percent; Cruz, 11 percent.
On the Democratic side:
- Hillary Clinton, 51 percent;
- Bernie Sanders, 40 percent;
- Clinton: 88 percent committed voters;
- Sanders, 71 percent committed voters;
The state is also more solidly blue, the poll revealed in favorablity ratings:
- Clinton over Trump, 55-35 percent;
- Sanders over Trump, 58-33 percent;
- Clinton over Cruz, 56-30 percent;
- Sanders over Cruz, 59-27 percent;
- Clinton over Kasich, 50-36 percent;
- Sanders over Kasich, 54-35 percent.
The poll carried an overall margin of error of 2.6 percent, including 3.8 points for Democrats and 4.5 percent for Republicans.
