While the presidential race is still too close to call, Ohio may hold the key to the White House for GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, according to pollster and author Scott Rasmussen.

“Florida and Virginia are absolute must-win states for the Romney campaign. After that, Romney has to win either Ohio or Wisconsin,” according to Rasmussen. “If he wins Ohio, chances are he wins the election. If Romney loses Ohio but wins Wisconsin, he also needs to get Colorado and either Iowa or Nevada to be the next president. Short of that, Obama will be re-elected.”

With three days to go, the presidential election is at a dead heat, Rasmussen noted.

Urgent Poll: Romney or Obama? Cast Your Vote Now!

“Why is it so close? Because the economy remains the number one issue, and neither candidate has really convinced voters that they know what the nation needs,” he said. “Most Americans do not feel better off than they were four years ago, but most are not feeling worse off either.”

Rasmussen’s national daily tracking poll showed President Barack Obama and Romney tied at 48 on Saturday.

“Eight states, with a total of 95 Electoral College votes, remain toss-ups and will determine who’s sworn in as president in January,” Rasmussen explains.

The candidates are tied in Ohio and Wisconsin, with Obama holding a lead in Nevada and Romney up by one to three points in the remainder of the eight states, based on Rasmussen polling results.
