President Barack Obama has been advocating for immigration reform recently. But there is absolutely no chance of passing any such legislation in this Congress, The Hill reports.

What the president really is doing is trying to ensure that he wins Hispanic votes next year by appearing interested in immigration reform, Republicans say. Obama is only “serious about appearing to be serious on the issue,” a Republican participant in a meeting Obama had with Hispanic leaders told The Hill.

“I sense that he is in deep [expletive] with the Hispanic community, which is a necessary base. The evidence against him would lead to a conviction. He has not done squat on this issue.”

Sadly, “This approach has worked before,” said Republican strategist Leslie Sanchez. “It has become a campaign tactic rather than a legislative approach to solve a problem.”
