New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Jack Kimball’s rise to that role in January represented a validation for tea party activists. But now Kimball claims the Republican Governors Association (RGA) offered the state party money if he would quit, Politico reports.

Some Republicans have been calling for Kimball’s resignation in the wake of personnel turnover, paltry fundraising and losses in local special elections.

The first bribery report came from the conservative blog GraniteGrok, which stated that the RGA offered to provide $100,000 for state races if Kimball stepped down. He confirmed the story to The Boston Globe. “The contents in that piece are accurate,” he said.

But the RGA denied his accusations. “The reports are wrong,” said spokesman Mike Schrimpf.
