Todd Palin has nothing on Marcus Bachmann, husband of Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann. He’s carving a multifaceted role for himself on the campaign trail of the Minnesota congresswoman, Politico reports.

And Marcus hasn’t even made a speech yet. But he’s already figured out his role: “equal parts confidant, body man, image consultant and political strategist,” the news service states.

The potential first man, a clinical therapist who runs counseling centers in Lake Elmo and Burnsville, Minn., makes it a habit to focus potential voters’ attention on his wife rather than him.

“It’s not about me,” he told an audience in Rock Hill, S.C. “This culture has a lot to do about wanting for me. If you understand how important it is to serve, you really become a success story.”

To be sure, the publicity enveloping Marcus isn’t all positive. His parents have a government-subsidized farm that news reports tied to the couple, and he took flak for accepting more than $137,000 in Medicaid payments for his crisis center.

But Marcus stood by his wife’s side the entire time during her campaign trip through Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina last week.
