A super PAC supporting Mitt Romney is turning to Ronald Reagan to power its latest salvo against Newt Gingrich. The former House speaker frequently has invoked his relationship with Reagan in his battle for the GOP presidential nomination and the PAC is turning it against him.

The narrator in the Restore Our Future ad says that, “from debates, you’d think Newt Gingrich was Ronald Reagan’s vice president. Gingrich exaggerates, dropping Reagan’s name 50 times.”

“But in his diaries, Reagan mentions Gingrich only once,” the narrator says. “Reagan criticized Gingrich, saying Newt’s ideas would ‘cripple our defense program.’ Reagan rejected Gingrich’s ideas. On leadership and character, Gingrich is no Ronald Reagan.”

Former Romney aides run Restore Our Future, which has spent $4 million on ads in Florida in the past week alone.
