GOP Hopes Convention in Tampa Gets Votes

Florida Republicans are hoping that the tapping of Tampa for the upcoming GOP national convention will help put Florida in the GOP column in the 2012 presidential race, according to a report in the Tampa Tribune..

"It promotes the Republican brand for two years leading up to the convention, and gives us something to talk about for the next two years," said state GOP Chairman John Thrasher. "It adds impetus and enthusiasm to our fundraising for 2010 as well as 2012."

Rubio, assuming he wins this year, "would be a superstar at a convention like that," Thrasher added.
