Republicans are on the rise in New York. A new Quinnipiac poll shows Democratic Sen. Kristen Gillibrand leading her Republican rival, virtually unknown Joe DioGuardi, by just 48 percent to 42 percent, according to a
quinnipac.edu release.

Gillibrand, DioGuardi, New-York, Cuomo, PaladinoThis comes a day after another Quinnipiac poll showed supposedly prohibitive gubernatorial favorite Andrew Cuomo leading another little known Republican challenger, Carl Paladino, by only 49-43 percent.

“Gillibrand is closing in on the magic 50 percent point. But DioGuardi makes a race of it against her, even though three-fifths of New Yorkers don't know much about him," Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a statement.
