Democrats see the writing on the wall. The GOP will probably win back control of the House next week and may well win back the Senate too. So Democrats already are preparing their post-election excuse: we lost because of the spending by outside conservative interest groups, Politico reports.

Democrats, election, excuseHouse Speaker Nancy Pelosi began singing this tune at a Democratic fundraiser in Minnesota Saturday.

"Everything was going great, and all of a sudden secret money from God knows where — because they won't disclose it — is pouring in,” she said.

Presumably she meant everything was going great on Mars, because down here on Earth, the trouble started brewing for Democrats in the summer of 2009.

Vice President Joe Biden sounded a similar theme in an interview with Bloomberg last week, saying he’s “amazed” at the spending of the conservative groups.
