WASHINGTON (AP) — Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will be the next chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

Democratic officials say Wasserman Schultz will take over the helm of the central committee. She is replacing current chairman Tim Kaine. He is running for the Senate in Virginia.

The officials discussed the Wasserman Schultz decision on the condition of anonymity because the announcement was not yet public.

Wasserman Schultz comes from the crucial swing state of Florida and has emerged as a key White House defender.
