Republican South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, who is projected as an easy winner for re-election over Democrat Alvin Greene, took a shot at the GOP establishment while congratulating Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul for his victory in Kentucky, Politico reports.

DeMint, Rand Paul, Republicans, Senate"I want to congratulate Rand Paul on winning a race that the leaders in his own party said he could not win. Rand overcame difficult odds because he consistently stood up for conservative principles," a DeMint statement said.

"Voters in Kentucky have done something truly historic today," DeMint said. "They've said 'no' to parochial, pork-barrel politics and sent an outstanding leader to the Senate.”
