NEW YORK — A new book about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney promises a direct take on the GOP's leading presidential contender.

Threshold Editions, a conservative imprint of Simon & Schuster, announced Wednesday that it's publishing "Mitt Romney In His Own Words" in May.

The book will be a paperback original and offer quotes on "countless hot-button issues." Conservatives have criticized the former Massachusetts governor's evolving positions on healthcare, abortion, and other issues.

Threshold spokeswoman Jean Anne Rose said the new book will be "pro"-Romney.

Romney's quotes were compiled by Phillip Hines, who also worked on "LeBron James in His Own Words." Romney's own book, "No Apology," came out in 2010 from St. Martin's Press.
