A new poll shows that Americans are tiring of Vice President Joe Biden, with 54 percent viewing him unfavorably in 12 swing states likely to determine the outcome of the presidential election.

Overall, Americans aren’t showing support for the gaffe-prone Biden, the USA Today/Gallup Poll shows: 42 percent said they had a favorable opinion, and 45 percent said unfavorable.

But the news is worse for the former Delaware senator in swing states. There the unfavorable number jumps to 54 percent, with just 40 percent viewing him favorably. Those are worse figures than those for his boss, President Barack Obama, who is seen favorably by 50 percent of registered voters in those same states and unfavorably by 49 percent.

The poll of 1,012 adults conducted May 10-13, shows Biden losing support from independent voters too, with 50 percent viewing him unfavorably.

The 12 swing states in the poll are Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Biden’s sagging numbers put him way behind the two most recent veeps. Al Gore stood at 60 percent favorable in August 2004; Dick Cheney at 46 percent favorable and 42 percent unfavorable in July 2004.

However, Dan Quayle was viewed favorably by only 33 percent and unfavorably by 58 percent in July 1992, the year he and George H.W. Bush lost in their bid for a second term in the White House.
