One might be surprised to hear someone from the left-leaning Brookings Institution argue that Michele Bachmann shined in Monday’s presidential debate. But that’s exactly what Darrell West, governance studies director at the Washington, D.C., think tank, wrote on
Politico.
“The most articulate candidate last night was Minnesota House member Michele Bachmann,” West maintained. “She was clear and focused in her remarks and drew one of the strongest applause lines when she boldly stated that Barack Obama was going to be a one-term president.”
Bachmann smartly used then-Sen. Obama’s statement opposing an earlier increase in the government debt limit to justify her own current opposition to lifting the debt ceiling without major spending reductions, West wrote. She also offered “a strong critique of the President’s Libyan policy,” he said.
