On the same day Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann won the Iowa Straw Poll on Aug. 13, Rick Perry entered the nomination race, stealing much of her thunder. The Texas governor has dominated the headlines since then, and now the Minnesota congressman is fighting to bask in the spotlight again, Politico reports.

The Minnesota congresswoman pointed out at campaign rallies in South Carolina Friday that she’s already come from nowhere to be part of what pundits see as the top three candidates now — front-runner Mitt Romney is the third.

“You may have heard last Saturday there was a little election in Iowa, and I was the No. 1 winner of the Iowa Straw Poll,” Bachmann said. “That victory was even more stunning than it was reported. I had only been a candidate for 49 days . . .  and I had spent about half the time in Washington, D.C., fighting against” a debt ceiling increase.
